From the plains of Oklahoma...

....to the palms of the Caribbean!

We spent last weekend in the port town of Portobelo. This was a spectacular trip - the highlight was taking a little boat for an afternoon on a secluded beach, with only the howler monkeys and some masked tityras for company. Unfortunately, something was wrong with my camera - we've been trying to troubleshoot it, but it's been really erratic. So we're back to our old point and shot for now. And for that beautiful beach, no camera at all. That said, we still had a wonderful time.

Here's Gwendolyn, approaching the ocean in front of our hotel.

And here's a sign for a restaurant (sponsored by Alka-Seltzer??) that David and his dad thought very funny.

The camera failure wasn't the only glitch of the trip. In the middle of the night, we found our hotel room full of mosquitoes (we caught over 20, but they kept pouring in through huge holes in the wall). So our trip took a strange turn - at 2 in the morning we piled in the car and drove the hour and a half back to Gamboa. And slept very well.

Wow, but they are so small and you are so big. Did you try intimidation?

A very determined march to the water's edge with the pet pig--did they both go in?

We somehow managed to keep Oso (her pink bear) out of the water - she's shifted her allegiances, it used to be Puerquito, then Bunky, but now Oso is first. And those tiny mosquitoes, totally intimidating!

Is it easy for you to send stuff to the States? The main Canon repair facility in the US is about 45 minutes from us, I have taken my stuff there many times. -Sam

Hi Sam! I think I isolated the problem to the autofocus on just one lens, the others seem to work fine. I'll contact the Canon repair center like you said. It is easy for us to send stuff to the states. It's amazing how after just a few months with this camera how dependent I am! It's such a great camera.
