Fish seining

I'm still trying to catch up - here's a post from a few weeks ago when Mike and his girls were still here.

Together with the bat interns, we drove out to Pipeline Road to seine for fish (= bat food).

The seining was a fun, chaotic adventure, that did result in a good number of fish.

Gwendolyn loved it, but it was all we could do to keep her from plunging in after the seiners.

On the way out, we saw these beautiful armadillos.

And here's Sean, who could not resist catching one (for a brief minute).

School

Another milestone of turning two - Gwendolyn can now go to the Gamboa preschool twice a week. She was already going to the Friday morning playgroup in the same building, in playgroup each kid's parent or nanny stays the whole time. In school, she gets dropped off at 8 and picked up at 11:30! We were a little worried at first, but she seemed completely comfortable, Graciela said she was so eager to start playing she barely said goodbye. She's coming home singing Spanish songs we've never heard before, and seeming very happy. And loving her new backpack.

Backpack!

It's been a long time since we've posted, and there is a lot to catch up on. First - some of the great presents Gwendolyn got for her birthday.

A favorite was the gift from Graciela and her granddaughter Isabelina.

This shot does not come close to capturing the joy this bag brought - and brings. More backpack shots to come...

Happy Birthday Max!

We tried really hard to get Wren to sing in this video, to no avail! But we still are wishing Max a very happy first birthday - from your cousin Gwendolyn, Aunt Rachel, and Uncle David. :)

Dad - Home!

Wed night was very exciting for all of us. Just after 8 I strapped Gwendolyn into her car seat and started the hour drive to the airport. She spent the first half hour or so happily chanting, "Dad! Airplane!" And finally fell asleep. It was all David could do not to wake her up when he saw her, but he let her sleep all the way home. When we arrived and the car stopped moving, she opened her eyes and saw David. It took a moment or two before she was awake enough to realize what was happening, and then the exclamations began - "Dad! Dad!"

And the next morning? Yet more delight. After snuggling with her Dad for a long time, Gwendolyn discovered Ralph, one of the suitcase full of childhood stuffed animals David brought back for her from Tulsa. No end of good things!
