Catching Bats
Arenas assembled, we were ready to test some bats. We headed to a forest 2 hours east of Tabachka. After the rocky limestone cliffs surrounding Tabachka - beautiful but very hot and dry - we were all ready for lush forest. We spent a night mistnetting bats at a cave near the town of Shumen.

We did get temporarily stuck. Lots of rain, lots of mud.... Fortunately Stefan's off-roading skills and a few well placed rocks soon got us out.

This was our first field trip with the Wren and we were not quite sure what to expect. To our relief, she did great. While Patty and I ran experiments, David and Gwendolyn curled up in the backseat of the truck. The Wren slept better than she did at home!

That cave shot is so cool.
I love that you took Gwen Wren netting in the bat caves of Bulgaria. Way to see the world, Gwendolyn!
Gwen really seems to smile through everything!
What a smile!
Let us know what you discover about the bats.
love, Christina
