We just got back from a very rainy weekend in the mountains. Santa Fe, Panama and Santa Fe, New Mexico could not be more different in terms of humidity/rainfall/water levels in general. Santa Fe, Panama was not quite as spectacular as Santa Fe, NM. But it did have a quiet, humble beauty. And it was wonderful to get away for a couple days.

| One of the local campesinos showed us his farm - organic rice paddies... |
| ...coffee... |
| ...and flowers galore. |
| He and his family lived up a road on the other side of this roaring river, connected to the main road only by a foot bridge. No cars, no tractors, nothing but people on foot or on horseback. |
| Here he is, along with the Panamanian/Dutch couple who joined us. |
| We stayed in the Hostal La Quia. And discovered that hostels are a great place for the Wren. She was so excited at meeting so many nice people, she did not want to go to bed. And in the morning, she told me she had to go "wake up all the peoples." |
| David's favorite pastime was dozing on the balcony hammock. |
| Gwendolyn's was chasing the resident puppy. |
| Here we are on the porch in the evening, a moment of intense concentration. |
| And finally the road home. |
| We stopped for a overcast/rainy visit to the Pacific on our way back. A meal of wonderful fried fish. And a black-sand-covered, beach-flower-adorned Wren. |
