At 5:30 AM Central European Time, Gwen Wren's parents (after staying up all night watching CNN International) woke the Wren up to watch Barack Obama's victory speech live from the U.S. It seems that the absentee ballot was worth the trouble after all. Although she did pick up on and take part in our excitement, she might not quite have grasped the full measure of our joy and relief that she will now be able to spend most of her formative years (and beyond, let us hope) in a world that is on the upswing.
