All Hallows Day

Gwen Wren’s first Halloween was not full of ghouls and goblins. She went to bed at 6 o’clock, missing (and causing her parents to miss) the Institute’s Halloween party. Which is too bad, because she had a really cute costume (although not very accurate from a biologist’s point of view).

The day after Halloween—All Saints Day—is a work holiday in Germany, so we had the day free. We started the day trying to take the requisite Halloween photo, complete with pumpkins.

Dixie’s curiosity—and the Wren’s lack of balance—made the photo session difficult.

It was a nice day, so we decided to take a stroll around the Starnberger See. Gwendolyn got many compliments, or at least we think they were compliments—lots of Germans smiling and pointing and saying things in German.

We stopped for a while on a rocky beach.

Gwen Wren’s spirits perked up as she soaked up the sun.

Then she was ready for a short nap.

Next stop was coffee and cakes. Rachel had a scrumptious hot chocolate.

The day ended nicely as we watched the Alps turn purple in the sunset.

It was a cute costume! Sorry you missed the party! Thanks for the beautiful scenic photos -- but, David, what are you doing up at 4 a.m.? Did the Wren wake you?
She has a great smile.
